Mnemba Island is a private island with access restricted to guests of the sumptuous of the Island. Boats will drop you off directly at the reef, which lies a few dozens meters from the small island.

Mnemba Island, a small island laying off the northeastern coast of Zanzibar, is partially edged by a shallow coral reef. Listed as a marine reserve, it is the most popular snorkeling spot in Zanzibar. Moorish idols, palette surgeonfish, snappers and anemonefish are easy to spot at this location, above a colorful, pretty display of corals.

The north coast of Mnemba Island is bordered by a 1km-long shallow coral reef. It is in this area, renowned for its (relative) coral health and its underwater visibility, that you will be dropped off.

The departure and return location for Mnemba Island is from Muyuni Beach, which is located north of Matemwe on the northeast coast of Zanzibar, Tanzania. From Muyuni Beach, it’s a 15–20-minute ski-boat ride to reach the private and exclusive paradise of Mnemba Island. This small island, approximately 1.5 kilometers (less than a mile) in circumference, is surrounded by breathtaking coral reefs and boasts some of Africa’s most magnificent dive sitesIt’s a perfect destination for honeymoons, romantic getaways, and those seeking an idyllic beach experience
Nestled off the northeast coast of Zanzibar, Mnemba Island stands as a pristine sanctuary amid the azure waters of the Indian Ocean. Getting to Mnemba Island:

The lodge collects guests at Zanzibar International Airport or Stone Town:
  • 1 ½-hour road trip (the last 20 minutes are on an unpaved, bumpy road)
  • 10 – 15-minute boat ride in an open ski boat
As there are no jetties – departures and landings are directly to and from the beach and involve a little wading. Please note that boat transfers are weather dependent. When dark, crossing the channel is not safe for our boatmen or guests. The road conditions are also not great, so best avoided at night. It is therefore important to adhere to the following transfer guidelines: Morning departure:
  • Summer: 06h00 Mnemba Island (06h15 Muyuni Beach)
  • Winter: 06h30 Mnemba Island (06h45 Muyuni Beach)
  • For 08h30 or 09h00 flights – depending if summer / winter / domestic / international flight
Afternoon departure:
  • Latest flight arrival at airport is 16h00 for guests to be transferred latest at 16h30 from Stone Town in winter and summer months
